Fitchburg-Longsjo Day 2
Posted on 7/5/2008 1:18:00 AM

Long day.

They switched around the format of the race this year so the RR falls before the Circuit race . In previous years the Circut race was after the TT and then the RR on Saturday. It was a long day today, 104 miles with 8 mile circuts of a fairly rolling course before the final lap ascent up Mt. Wachussetts Ski Mtn. Rained all morning but cleared up just in time to dry off the roads, mostly, for our race at 12:30.

I felt pretty good for most of the day staying up in the first third of the race all day. At the start they said they were going to enforce the yellow-line rule but it was obvoious that Stephen wasn't here on his shiny new red motorcycle because the entire road was filled with bike racers on some parts of the course. I stayed on the right side for the entire race, it was just where I felt most comfortable. On the last lap, I somehow got to the yellow-line side of the field and a wave of panic came over me so I had to cut through the pack and back to the right side. On the last lap through the feed zone I got popped and started chasing with a small group the last few miles before the last 3km climb. It was a long day and I couldn't hack it, but Sean Barrie got a good 28th, and Russ Langley and Jonathon Page both finished 16th and 14th, respectively.
