As I’m looking forward to the first training camp with Saxo Bank, I’ll wrap up my season recap following my experience at the Giro d’Italia. The Clasica San Sebastian was the next big moment for me in 2010 - my first Classic. There I proved to myself that I could get back to top form in same season, and I also showed that when I’m going well it’s good enough to ride with the top guys out there.
I also proved that I still have a lot to learn. I didn’t ride the smartest race, but hey, it’s only my first year, and now I have something to build on for next season. Two weeks later I almost got another time trial win in the Tour of Denmark, but I got beat up by an old man in Svein Tuft! It’s the old swings and roundabouts though; I did the same to the U23 world champ Adriano Malori last year in the Baby Giro…
Then I headed to the Eneco Tour and managed to get fourth overall, and then got that same result in my first Tour of Britain. Yeah, and then in the world championship time trial I got fourth again – I see a pattern! It was quite an experience to have the Worlds at home and come so close to a medal. All in all a solid first year as a pro, but I’m looking forward to working hard this winter to get myself on the podium more often in 2011...
