I tend to wait until the first rain after the last salting to ride outside, so I resort to jogging (no longer running) and the trainer. Currently I am watching "Tropic Thunder" while on the trainer. Mindless, but better than politics.

"Like getting mugged by a clown"
My favorite review of tropic thunder.

Now imagine what that salt does to aquatic ecosystems - it's screwed up. Road salting is like pissing in your own bed.

When I was a motivated racer where I used to remember eating like a quarter pound of road grit. Yuck. Yeah OC, road salt. Uggh. Sand and common sense baby. (Edit: Then again, waiting for a big rain to wash away the sand kinda sucks too!)

I thought this was going to be about salt intake. Then again, in Nick's case it was.

OC, "Road salting is like pissing in your own bed." Yeah. It does make for faster winter commutes but time-wise, some of that is lost with bike maintenance time in the spring (and $$s spent on chains, spokes, etc.)
In Ann Arbor where I rode 3 winters, the road crews do there best to achieve a 1:1 ratio of salt crystals to snowflakes. Often the snowflakes aren't up to their half of the equation.

Finally, a good rain after the last salting and no refreeze. Pumped up the tires and got out today. Oh my goodness, how completely out of shape I am. But it felt good to be out on the road again. Jogging/trainering is just not the same as riding.

It was sprinkling here and I didn't want to get wet outside so I rode the trainer and watched 'A Sunday in Hell.' Got wet just the same.

Albuquerque is warm and sunny, but before y'all hate on me, we had 50 mph winds yesterday!
