Also, a no power meter, nor Strava guy. My thought though, is racing isn't a power meter test. I mean, you can ride sitting up, no hands, into a headwind and certainly have a higher wattage than the guy next to you in the drops. .

Yeah, but that is not how you use a PM...it is not about who has the highest power. It is about knowing your individual power zones and training / racing within those zones.
