Looking at the options of replacing my crashed bike.

For a middling Medicare-age cyclist. With the same components, wheels, geometry, and weight how much difference would it make to just use my 10 year old Ti bike as opposed to a new higher end road bike as far as aerodynamics and speed?

Assume using 50mm carbon wheels.

3.3 watts/ kg is about my FTP

Hmmm….pretty hard to quantify without knowing more specifics, but I would assume at least a 5w drag penalty and possibly as much as 10w.

You can mitigate some of that loss by outfitting the ti bike with an aero handlebar, though.

But position is the key…make sure you can achieve the same position.

Both bikes have almost identical stack and reach so my position is nearly identical.
Not going aero bars since all I do are group rides and an occasional road race.

I've looked up so much stuff my brain went numb but this was interesting

In terms of aero benefit it seems to be:
Wheels
Position
Clothing
Frame

Some of the claims made seem so far fetched it's staggering: "Save 8 minutes with our new Superbike in a 40k TT"

Save 8 minutes over what, a Penny-Farthing?

Filtering out propaganda from science is sort of murky.

I'll have to dig into the article, but I would rank it as follows:

* Position
* Helmet
* Wheels / Clothing (toss up)
* Frame

Pretty sure Josh Poertner from Silca has a similar ranking.
