I have a Trek 5200 that I want to change the front fork out on with one from a 2009 Time. The trek has CranCreek headset that I need to get out of the frame. What is the recommended removal process? Hammer & driver? The Time fork has a threaded sleeve on the CF steer tube up near the top of the head tube location, I may have to remove that from the head tube if I can't get the Time top headset into the Trek. I am assuming this is epoxyed on, I am thinking of heating the sleeve up with a propane torch until the epoxy releases. HELP

Heating up the sleeve ot get the Epoxy to release? Sounds scary to me. Can you get the heat to be enough to break down the epoxy but low enough to not affect the resin of the steerer tube? (I hope they didn't use the common grey two-part epoxy recommended for repairing kitchen appliances. I use a spot of that stuff 10 years ago for a paint chip on my stove, 2 inches from a burner and it is hard as a rock still.)
A machinist could almost certainly turn the sleeve down to the correct diameter or to the steerer itself.
dkri, do you have any better suggestions?

The recommended removal process is to use a headset removal tool. I would discourage you from heating a carbon steer tube.

I'll take it to a bike shop and have them yank the canecreek headset out of the frame & then remove the fork headtube sleeve.
I have enough other disasters to deal with.
Thanks.
