the reason more people don't commute in the south and southeast is it's so friggin' hot and humid. and when it rains here it rains buckets. and you would sweat through your clothes wearing rain gear.

Yep, Been there, done that. When living and bike commuting in Atlanta I quit using fenders and rain coat because it made no difference. When it is raining at a rate of 6 inches per hour, none of that helps. Just ride through it. Too many times I was splashed by wall of water as cars when through huge puddles next to me.

And if it was not raining, I was sweat-soaked within half an hour of starting a ride. Always rode wet, whether raining or not!!
