Ok got the wife signed up for a trip to Richmond in 2015 to see the worlds. Anyone know the area ? Where would be a good place to stay? She likes it a little on the up scale side. B&Bs are not her thing, We like good local food when we travel. Walking distance would be good. Me , I just want to see the races.

Just an FYI: Virginia is for Lovers

Depending on where you are from, consider staying in the Charlottesville area and rolling down for the event. Just about an hour away. Lots of great places to stay, great food, riding and history. That part of Virginia is great that time of year, perfect for a getaway. Parts of Richmond are cool, but it would be like going to Birmingham or something. Doesn't do it for me

Williamsburg is about a hour drive away as well.

Richmond has really evolved over the last decade and has way more going in terms of food, entertainment, etc. than either C-ville or Williamsburg. Birmingham it ain't. Book early.
The road course Is not very hilly, but there are some leg breakers and a few really narrow windy roads like Georgetown road, fall off and hit a tree or swamp, fall back and have a lot of distance to make up.
The NCAAs this May will only use the city courses.

Isn't this event Pat McQuaid's brothers junket. Wonder how he got the contract?

Went to the NAHBS a few years back in Richmond. I was impressed with the city. Small-ish but a pretty cool place with a lot going on. As others have said, yep, seems like it has changed a lot in recent years.

I'll be going for sure. Went to Louisville last year for the CX championships, never seen anything PRO on the road. Should be awesome.

hey, I just read the course is gonna have some cobbles. Cool.

Would make for a nice destination and then do some riding in the appalachians but I am already spending way too much money on cycling in 2015.

LOL! I was thinking the same thing. Chances are pretty good for one in this region at that time of the year.

Charlottesville is very nice and has a good road scene. Skyline Drive isn't far awayl.

I don't always stay in Richmond, but when I do, I stay at the Jefferson. www.jeffersonhotel.com I also agree with the Birmingham comparison, both are nice enough to visit, have decent cycling, and fair food options; but sure as $hit, I'm not living there.

The Jefferson!, very nice PA (5 star hotel). Business must be good!
The road course also has cobbles on Monument Avenue, a truly beautiful boulevard with statues of losing Civil War generals and others including native son Arthur Ashe ( tennis, died of AIDS from a transfusion). This course isn't as hilly as some but it will be hard with cobbles, lots of corners, and some narrow roads. Also good for spectating.
