I really like this Rui Da Costa guy.  He seems to have real race smarts.  Most of the time under the radar but it appears he knows where to put himself where he will have a chance.  I don't get to see the live footage so I am mostly conjecturing here, but I suspect the live footage wouldn't show him a lot over the past week, either at the front or falling off the back. Also I don't hear of him crashing.   And he seems to manage all this without a super team.  As I gather from the live updates, Costa jumped from the remains of the peloton with Frank and Mollema, then benefited from their teammates dropping back from the break.  Smart!  Sounds kinda like that Spanish rider we all know.

Maybe this will all go to Costa's head and he will start believing he is somebody special.  But I'll bet this doesn't happen and that his even though his competitors don't like at all that he beat them (and did so by using them), they will line up against him next race without grudges.

I like that Rui in TdS, and Andrew in CdD made aggressive moves to win the overall.

Rui is a solid rider who is getting his shot at being the leader for a GT. I'll be interested to see how he does.

Ben, I would argue that he is somebody special. Look at his kit. Look at his palmares (last year would be a dream season/career for any rider). But, I agree that this win should give him a mental boost heading into the TdF.

It would be great to see a guy in the rainbow stripes actually be a potential contender at the Tour, unlike most years -- well, except when Cadel had it.

jm. big difference between being someone special (World's winner) and believing you are someone special. I hope Costa continues to win big races and stays a regular guy.
