Sorry Paul there was no gap. Simon wasn't closing the door on anybody, Cav tried to push him out of the way, and he paid the price. Tell it like it is!

Sucks for Cav, but I didn't see anyone do anything wrong (even Cav). That is just bike racing sometimes.

WTF was Froome thinking sprinting for 6th? His whole race could have ended today.

Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

Looked to me Cav was on the edge trying to hold on and slightly lost his balance, leaning left on Gerrans who already had a guy to his left. Gerrans got squeezed, crashed, taking out the three of them. No ones fault really, certainly not Gerrans.

Cav is generally quite assertive and aggressive, as well as most sprinters - it just bit him in the ass today.

When he was so much faster than everyone else his erratic riding was out front and away from the main body of the field. Now that he's not as dominant his argy-bargy gets him in trouble.

Huck is right, most sprinters are pretty aggressive.

I couldn't see what happened in the replays. The film didn't go back enough. I read a post that said a French rider hooked bars with Gerrans pushing him into Cavendish.

cyclingnews had him 3+ minutes back, but velonews is showing him :00 back. Maybe he was behind the crash (hopefully not in the crash) so his chip had the actual time, but since it was within 3K its same time.

Rough Racing no doubt, not enough space. The better play would have been to wait a millisecond and let SG pass and grab his wheel. Like I know, but just sayin. It does suck for Cav and the race. Bummer!

Saw a gif on Peleton. Cav is pushing Gerrans. Gerrans gets hip checked by a Europecar rider, Cav goes down. I don't think anyone is at fault. Just sprinting in a crowd.

Talansky apparently had a flat in the last 3k. His official time should get adjusted.

In my book he moved up a couple of notches. One more TDF win or a chance to get on the podium with a princess, I'd say sprint brother sprint. Smart man.

AC sprains hurt like hell, but all do well in the long run (6 months). A shot into the joint can make it hurt less but that's probably not allowed. Unless his shoulder has asthma, then he gets a medical exception.
