I find myself in an unusual situation in that i get to sit around watching the Tour live, nothing else to do. The catch is that I'm doing it from Erbil, Kurdistan, while visiting family who teach here. yes, a "vacation." we do a few things in the morning and then once the heat comes up retreat inside and watch TV. So, for me, the Tour. Never been able to do this before, but for the next 10 days, that is the routine.

I am getting some riding in. I get out at 4:30 AM and ride a cheap MTB around a .6 mile circuit around the school compound. Only issue is 11 big speed bumps per lap. And even at that time it is 90+ degF. But still better than spending an hour on the trainer!

Here's the circuit:

the jogs off the main course are too get soaked in the lawn sprinklers!

As far as the danger of being here, it is not even noticeable. no one seems worried about the stuff going on in the south. The only effect is the closing of the big refinery that supplies a lot of the fuel of this area and long lines for gas. like 5 hours to get a 10 gallon ration. Still a lot of traffic, though, so not much effect so far.
