For as many wins as Sagan has, he really doesn't know how to win a race. If I was his teammate and he wanted me to turn myself inside out to set a pace I'd say F it. He tossed away another win today just being a dumb ass. It's ok to lose but like that from that group ?

Contrary point of view, just making conversation:
So, if it's not a sure bet, don't try?

dunno rideon, i think you're being a bit too hard on a guy who's won a bunch of races after his team has turned themselves inside out. yeah maybe he should have been paying more attention when nibali jumped, and took it upon himself to chase, because none of those other guys wanted to drag him to a sprint finish. but i suspect even his legs were feeling a bit heavy after all those lumpy miles.

I was impressed that he was even in that group. I like that he and Vincenzo were 1-2 today because they are racers who race to win instead of racing not to lose.

Sagan said he didn't go after Nibali's because he's a friend. I think partly the number of attacks at the end wore him down a bit and was hoping Froome or Contador would chase. I wonder if he has spoken with Astana about a contract?

I think Sagan lost it when he tried to attack at 4k to go. He hammered for about 1k and he was toast after that. On paper he was by far the fastest sprinter in the group. None of the top GC guys was going to get away from that far out. Waiting is a hard thing to do.

Ding, ding, ding. The guy races like a knucklehead way too often. His strength has been able to see him through sometimes, but people are catching in to him.
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

While I have faulted Sagan in past for shortsighted tactics, I don't think that was the case today. Would have been very hard for anyone to win from that group. I am thinking his bet at 4k was that the GC guys would just watch each other and that he could sneak away. Better that than having to weather through a flurry of attacks in last km. Didn't happen so it wasn't his lucky day. Nibali was lucky that his move stuck.

But physically I don't think Sagan quite has the level he did last year. That is why he isn't winning as much.

Wait, what? Sagan is about as sure a bet as there is in cycling, not riding for him would be ridiculous. Might I remind people that he finished second yesterday on a stage won by the best sprinter in the business and today finished third on a stage with 11,000 feet of climbing with a who's who of GC guys. Oh, and all while wearing the jersey of best young rider, yeah, he's still only 24. 66 wins at 24 and "he races like a knucklhead" hilarious. For reference at 24 Cancellara had 24 wins and ZERO classics.

That isn't a very good comparison , Sprinters get way more wins than a guy like Cancellara.

Don't get me wrong the guy is a freak and I love to watch him race. He is sure to take the Green again this year but I think he has won so many times already that he doesn't have that all or nothing do or die feeling for a win. It's like hem, I'll get them next time. Sometimes I think he is out just messing about trying things. As a sponsor I would love him and hate him at the same time.

This pretty much sums it up; what Sagan needs is a proper team to support him.

If he wants to win TdF stages, Tinkov-Saxo is not a good team for him. If Cdale moves to Slipstream, that isn't good fit either because they have young GC guys they are building around. I could see him going to Trek to work with their classics squad, and then be QB1 for the TdF. Yes, I know Fabs is there, but that would be a great 1-2. OP-QS is good all spring/all year because they have so many cards, Trek could use another ace.

I thought stage wins didn't matter as long as you got the Green jersey?
