Good lord, I have actually taken to fast forwarding the DVR so I don't have to listen to him.

Get the NBCsports app, You can play the whole stage thru with zero commercials and you can start it anytime you want at any point you want yo start. $15.00 not a bad deal. With the Apple TV I can see it on the big screen.

He is definitely struggling, but he has grown by leaps and bounds since the AMGEN Tour of California.

He's completely undeserving of the opportunity, he should be busing tables at Hincapie's place

He has a bright personality, and an obvious vault of knowledge. To say cyclist's don't deserve a place in cycling broadcasts leaves us with Al Trautwig (sp) types for announcers. Every ex-cyclist who has been a part of a broadcast for the last 20 years has been a doper.

It can't be easy to jump into the commentary box from the peloton, he's good with me.

Inferno, Lemond is available - so is Andy Hampsten

just wish they would move past the whole crew of -7 enablers, CVV being one. If he's going to announce they might as well bring back the Chris Carmichael segments, only have them live from -7's estate or the Hincapie hotel

Setting aside the historical context debate, as I watch him, I think his head is actually still in the race when he is describing it. It's like he is verbally reacting to what is happening when the pack is sprinting or wheeling through tight corners. It's like he is commenting while on the bike in the middle of the pack. It does result in a bit of verbal chaos. Maybe he improves, maybe not. But, he is on NBC because he is a recent US racer of some note. All about getting eyes on the screen. If he turn out to be unpopular, he'll be gone.

And now, to go out on a limb . . . now that he has stopped saying "Tour day Fraaance" just to tick off the French, I find Bob somewhat entertaining. He's knowledgeable about tactics and how a stage will unfold and just a little bit irreverent, which I like. Can't take things too seriously in my book.

I am putting on my fireproof suit . . .

Not so sure about either of those two and doping, I doubt they were 100% clean. But I hear ya if it reminds you of the S show that was the Lance show, by all means.

Hampsten is widely recognized as having never doped.....and I think his performances pretty well back that up. His race results started dropping pretty dramatically in the early 90's. Even in '92, when he came 4th in the TdF, was the result of his day long break to L'Alpe, His day-to-day performances were pretty erratic.

I'm still waiting for someone to provide some evidence that Lemond doped. Not even proof, just some evidence.

I have no idea if Lemond doped, but I do find it odd that he was pretty much an Armstrong fan for the first two wins, then kind of okay on win three, but started being critical and questioning in the run up to win 4. I'm not the fan/historian of the sport like many here by any means, very casual observer. But, that's the way it struck me at the time.

Am I wrong?

He became critical of -7 only after it was revealed that he had worked with Ferrari. That was the red flag for him. Rumors / innuendo prior to this, but that was a step too far.

Seems pretty natural, IMO.

^ That was when I went to thinking -7 was a cheat, not just an arrogant a-hole. I also remember on the old VN forum getting my hide tanned for so stating.

Ah, if the Ferrari thing times up in the whole sequence then that makes sense. I still wonder though, if the doping issue was so rampant and cavalier, i.e TH's book, wouldn't someone like Lemond have at least been questioning since day one?

Again . . . casual observer who just like pedaling my bike. Better insights appreciated.
