Giro Rosa, one of the worst displays of dirty racing I've ever seen.

Got this off Katie Compton's twitter. Mara Abbott is ridden into the barriers on numerous occasions. I'd protest to the commisaires if I was UHC team manager. I will now root against that team (Rabo Liv)  at every occasion.   Fast forward to climb at 30:00 in.

What am I supposed to be looking for?

It looks like Team Rabo is making a concerted effort to block Mara on the climb, as best I can tell.

Predictable.

Since when is blocking considered dirty?

Nothing wrong with forcing a rider to take a steeper, bad line or shutting the door on her or boxing her in. If Mara doesn't like it, then she should get in front and dictate the pace and pick her own line.

I didn't watch the entire video but it looks to be just hard nosed tactical racing. Both hands are on the bars, no physical contact, much different from the Giant-Shimano video from a few weeks ago in which no one was penalized but was almost MMA stuff.

That's old school racing, but might be viewed as less sporting. Mara didn't handle it well. There were several times that she could have gapped Voss off, when Rabo responded, Mara could have jumped clear (or at least tried to).

When someone says "ridden into the barriers" I actually, you know, expect to see someone ridden into the barriers.

Forgive me for reading what you said and assuming that is what actually happened. I'll know better next time...

Some people think racing is gentle and let's line up ten abreast and have fair sprint, no jumping alloed no braking late and passing in corners. I saw zero dirty riding in that video.

With the ladies field, they all have smiles and a just happy to be here attitude - even most of the top pros. A little bit of aggro/competitiveness is mind boggling for many of them - particularly on the american side.

either ride at the front or at the back of the group if you don't want to be boxed in, there were like 6 people there. She shouldn't be so helpless about it. Funny that the complaint comes thru Compton because she is pretty aggressive compared to many women racers

That is why I asked what was I supposed to be looking for originally. I kept watching thinking, "ok, it is going to jump off any minute," and all I kept seeing was aggressive racing. I have boxed in guys myself, good friends even, because tactics and opportunity dictated that it was the best move. Conversely I have been boxed in when I knew I had good legs and just had to say to myself, "ahh well...maybe next time."

In short, don't be caught playing checkers when everyone else is playing chess.

Exactly Keith. I got called out for passing in a corner on the outside during a cross race once. WTF? They were going too slow. Five guys following one slow guy and no one had the guts to pass them all hammer the brakes at the turn. I did and I did well in that race. It's a race not a procession.
