The series of unfortunate events that led to AC's departure from the Tour yesterday is truly astounding.

In reading the article, I thought, "all of this hullabaloo about his bike..." If it had spontaneously snapped, causing him to crash, that would have been news. Otherwise, carbon breaks. It happens. Whether crashing at 35-40 mph, falling off a car roof, getting run over, whatever. You could imagine that people were a little freaked out in the moment. Not only for business/tactical reasons, but personal reason. Reports of rider down on a dissent...and bleeding, is stressful news. Personally, I would think the sponsor could have gone with, "We hope Alberto is OK, and as far as his bicycle goes, we hesitate to make any comments until we know what happened, blah, blah, blah."

Who knows what really happened?! When a pro's bike breaks it doesn't even make me think twice because these bikes live a hard life.

People crave chaos and the media is more than happy to feed it to us. "AAAUGHH, his bike exploded!"

Look at the Menchov non-story: everyone is clamoring because it wasn't a media sht storm.

Unfortunate events? The commentary from those that saw him crash (VdB and others) seemed to suggest he only had himself to blame. Bit of risky maneuvering for a marginal gain in position that was not needed at that moment.

I am not hating on Alberto. Yeah he blew it. But he is genetically predisposed to push it and attack if he has the legs. He reminds me of Pantani with his occasional recklessness.
