He needs to get on a podium soon in a GT. Seems like a tall task to ask him to do that in the 2015 tour. A GT podium in the Giro would be no cake walk either but if you can it looks pretty good on the old resume.

TJ has been surpassed by a new crop of riders; the odds of him getting on any GT podium are rapidly diminishing. IMO he should focus on getting good results in 1 week races and perhaps a few 1 day races that suit him.
Same goes for Dutch crop of GT talent (Gesink, Mollema, Kelderman). Of these Kelderman is most interesting but fact that he couldn't touch Aru in Giro is telling for what to expect of future, and where to focus.

He's headed in one of two directions. He could contend in a Tour that is more focused on TTs and the Alps. Or like OC says, he'll be saying bye-bye to his leadership and big salary. He has a few things working in his favor. Some guys peak in their late 20s (but not all). As the top American, he has decent marketing value. He also rode much of the last tour injured. Was that bad luck or poor skills? For some guys, it always seems to be something, a crash, a bad stomach, too hot, etc.
Guys like Tejay and LL and Mollema, who are followers, who never have that little extra to take the race to their competitors, are lucky to make the top 5, much less podium. Maybe the Vuelta in a sleeper year, but the Giro is too gritty and relentless for Tejay, at least for what he's shown us so far.

TJ is not a GT winner, IMO. One of those guys who can be a perennial Top 10, and if the perfect circumstances arise, a top 5 guy.
Winner (or even podium)? Nah.
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!
