[quote}“It sounds a bit horrible to say but I could break the record tomorrow. But I don’t just want to break it, I want to put it right up there, as far out of reach as I can,” Wiggins told The Times. “I’ve got 55km in my head and I think it’s realistic. And I think if I do it, it will stand for 20 years.”
However, he is probably right...at least about being able to break the current record. Can he hit 55K? We'll find out soon enough, I suppose..... |

Thanks, I didn't think I could despise this guy any more than I already do. I loathe everything about him. I know that's silly since it's not like I know him personally but everything he does in the public eye makes me cringe. He may be able to break 55km, that's true. But for it to stand for 20 years?? Nah. Saying that he could break the record tomorrow is disrespectful to all of those that have broken it in the past. It's akin to him saying that they are all beneath him or something. Reminds me of how Serena Williams never congratulates her opponents when they beat her. Never complements them on a game well-played. At the world-class level, the differences between also-ran and spectacular is about 0.001% so give credit where it's due. |

If it was boxing, hockey or any other sport this kind of talk would be met with thumbs up. His hour record attempt sold out in 7mins; he's got rock star appeal and talk to match. Wiggo's alright. |

I think he's just being a Shit There fixed it. Bradley is a douche. A talented douche. Who was knighted Why? again? Cause he wone the TDF once? Did the Queen watch that race? No attacking just boring as Shit. Which is what Bradley is. If all cyclists were like him in the pro peleton there would be no fans. So good luck to you Bradley. I truely hope you do miss the record by .005 cm |

Well, as I noted earlier, the reality is that he likely could go out and break the record tomorrow....and I think everyone would acknowledge that, including Dowsett. 55K? Definitely possible, but not a slam dunk. 20 year record? Yeah, it is schitt like that which makes you sound like a douche. |

I wonder if Wiggins is mocking UCI with those words. I doubt it but perhaps he is thinking ''you screwed up the hour record so much that now you are going to have to live with me, Bradley Wiggins, destroying the ''old' record and you will have to wait a good long while before you will get a classy hour record holder". There were decades where record was held by true champions. If I recall correctly, it was Coppi and Anquetil before Merckx. If Wiggins succeeds and does hold it 20 years when Merckx could only do it for 14, that's sad. But if Wiggins can boost of doing that and pull it off, all power to him! Of course, only the 55k is within his power. But I'll root for him if only for having the moxie. Ben |

The one thing you have to give Sir Wiggo credit for is his mental focus once he sets a goal. When he goes after something, he usually achieves it. Olympic & World Champ on the track? Check. transition to top-flight stage racer? Check. Win TdF? Check. And while he did not win Paris-Roubaix, he was clearly in the mix and executed his plan as he likely laid it out. I thought his move looked good when he went....just too much firepower behind. There is little doubt he'll set a new mark....the only question is how far he will go. |

In my dream he gets the record only to find out Spartacus has been in training and Wiggo hold the record for less than 24 hours. Oh, please let that come true! |

I can understand the UCI throwing out Boardman's Superman record that was over 56km but he only beat Rominger's SECOND record of 55.251km. yes yes, Rominger was juiced beyond belief but that's not really the point I want to make here. My point is that he was using dual discs, a STEEL double-diamond frame, and standard aerobars. This is a near identical set-up to what King Douchebag is going to be using, although his will be far more aerodynamic while adhering to the same rules. So why isn't Rominger's record still valid? |

Although steel, Rominger's frame was pretty damn aero.....tubes were highly manipulated and there were aero gussets around the head tube. As to why his record doesn't count, Rominger's bike does not comply to the current rules - 650c front wheel. |

If Sir Bradley's record does stand for 20 years, the kid who breaks it is about 9 or 10 years old today. |

CK, thanks for pointing out the 26" front wheel on Tony's bike. Forgot about that but seriously doubt it has much affect. Remember when Ullrich was using a gigantic 29" rear disc in TT's in '98? Didn't make much of a difference. Can't bring myself to refer to Wiggo as Sir. Maybe Sir Douchebag. Rominger crushed the record 21 years ago on that steel, albeit aero, Colnago. Again, it doesn't matter what juice he was on, he still crushed it. Wiggo is just not a great personality for professional cycling. Say what you will, but personalities like Lance's attracted normal people to the sport. We need more like that, but without the mobster tactics and sociopath tendencies. Is that even possible? |
