well moving right along -- Contador showed some real chops today finding 17 seconds over Aru and I dont know what over Porte -- what happened in that last km? Everyone is together in the Maglia rosa group at around 700meters and then AC finishes second to Gilbert with big gaps at the finish and there's no SKYrider in the top ten and Aru fades big time.... wow.

Friendship (mates) sure but I am also thinking it perhaps sheds some light on where Porte may ride next year. He said in 2013 he'd serve his Sky contract until 2015 and then look for sole leadership role elsewhere. Orica would be good fit.

BTW - is DonnaMobile going to provide us with any insights this year? We have entered the Veneto region I believe.

AC put the hurt on Aru today, this pic on this page says it all.

what is up with Astana's riding? What was Kangert doing out there up front?

Thanks for the link. That photo should show up on memes for years to come ("you think you had a bad day at work?" etc.)

I wanted to ask here too what if clarke did this during stage 4 given Clarke wore the Pink at the end of that stage? I would bet the conversation wold be very different and brailsford would be buying Clarke a ticket home.

Wow -- the fickel finger of fate strikes the flattest stage -- And AC loses all that neato time he grabbed yesterday. Well if its anything this Giro has been unpredictable == fun starts tomorrow.

Yes, Orange Crush, the Giro is indeed in my adopted home region, the Veneto, and I am there! Hope the tv/streaming coverage includes some aerial images of our beautiful region. Four stage victories have been won by riders from the Veneto: Viviani, Formolo, Boem, and now Modolo, so everyone is excited about that. I liked Modolo's post race comments: "I have always said that I don't consider myself a great champion or an exceptional natural talent. In my first year, I was fourth in Milano-Sanremo, and I still have no idea how I did it. The result was that you journalists expect so much more of me."
Too bad, though, that the weather is disrupting everyone's viewing plans. I was on Monte Berico yesterday, under the arcade (where I stayed dry but couldn't see much) and today went to see the race pass quickly through my husband's home town. Tomorrow I will be somewhere along the TT route, probably in Guia, but I don't have a plan how to get there. Riding there in the rain and then standing around for hours is not enticing, so maybe I will drive part way then walk. Sunday the race starts in nearby Marostica, a picturesque walled city, so I will go to the start and maybe drive ahead of the race to where the climbing starts.
As for the TT course, I ride on those roads all the time and know them well. There are a lot of little uphill sections followed by fast descents with numerous curves, so it is going to be very tricky, even more so with wet roads. It's impossible to get into a rhythm, so it’s not one for the TT specialists.
Funny thing about Aru's time gain today. He said "I was always at the front, in a good position to avoid possible falls, and what happened, happened." There's always talk of good luck and bad luck, but good "luck" is often the result of good judgment and anticipation/preparation, and bad "luck" can often be, indirectly, a person's own fault.

Thanks Donna; hope you had sufficient rain gear today; that was a pretty brutal day.

As for the race, Contador seems to be having it in the bag. Yesterday was just a blip.

One of my wife's cousins and his buddies went to see race today at GUIZZO Prosecco-di-Valdobbiadene. They looked pretty toasty :-)

Gotta get out there sometime again but my wife complained the last one was too much of a guys trip...eating,drinking, biking.

AC....AC, what can you say. Aru has issues and time to fix them career wise.

Ryder comes from the same place I live so I am following his progress. At 8:05 behind he does not look like he has been dong very well. the thing is he has not had a bad day at least not related to his performance. it is all tactical. If you take the 5:35 he lost because he was sitting in the back he is up with the current GC riders after his respectable TT ride. he gained time on all but Contador who it seems has the best chance for pink.
Maybe he can parlay that deficit to a stage win or jump in GC as I am sure Tinkov will give him a big leash. I just think that if he made no tactical errors we might be paying more attention to his riding.
