Checking out the World's course, stopped into one of Richmond's best bike shops.

Another photo from the course.
I read some skepticism from fellow forumites a few months back as to whether the course has cobbles or merely "pavers". Whatever you call them, there are miles of these on each lap.

Way cool.
That was me with the question but it was technical (terminology) curiosity, not skepticism. I was wondering if Richmond had cobbles ("kasseien; the rounded hard to ride ones) or "klinkers", the flatter pavers. In Belgium and Netherlands we have both. I had a hard time imagining cobbles in North America since it is such archane road building technology what was superceded by the easier to assemble pavers (Gerry Kneteman had that for a job before he became a racer if memory serves)
Anyway Cav had this to say after his red carpet tour; "Those are not challenging, if I'm honest," he said of the Libby Hill cobbles. "The most challenging hill is the [climb on Governors Street]. The cobbles is more about positioning. We're professional bike riders. The juniors might find it hard there but [to] the professionals it's not really anything. It's not like riding on a flat road, obviously. Positioning is probably key, but in terms of technical difficulty, they're not that big a deal.""

I'll buy that. Just narrow and twisty, but the effect accumulates after 6 hours. The governors hill is very sharp and closer to the finish.

LSD what is the name of the shop, and which one is you in the photo? I have a cousin that just moved to the area, he may want to know where the best shop in town is.

Carytown Bikes. I'm not in the photo, was not there. The photo is courtesy of the race promotors. I almost stopped in yesterday to pick up a couple of tubes, just by coincidence, that would have been fun.
