Dead of a heart attack at 40. Very sad... much too young. Seems none of the cycling media are saying much about this. Family heart history? Retired cyclist with an enlarged heart syndrome? Or, dare I say, a victim of the PED era?

Are you sure he's dead? I know he was in a coma but I haven't heard anything from either L'Équipe or other French media.
Gaumont was a real dope fiend. He did not stop at just PEDs, but partook in all kinds of recreational stuff as well, his heart attack hardly seems like a freak accident.IIRC, Millar blamed him for turning him onto EPO when they were at Cofidis.

Cyclingnews has an article on him. Had a heart attack April 23 and never pulled out

I have trouble with the concept that he is a victim. He chose to put those chemicals on his body. That there could be consequences was known. By the same token, I do not consider myself to be a victim of the fork I chose to ride, nor of the chemicals I worked with in my recovery years when I was unable to return to my profession. Those chemicals have left me with lifelong consequences.

Yeah, just trying to word it nicely on the new forum. Deciding to use PED's is deciding to roll the dice, particularly for the long-term consequences.

I pasted the wrong address above. Cyclingnews has a brief and mot very detailed article, Velonation had the real deal.
