This race is #3 in my top 5. Men: Cancellara, van Avermaet & Stybar (in no particular order) with Nibali as the dark horse. Ladies: van der Breggen, Armitstead, Johansson (again, in no particular order) with Longo-Borghini & Cecchini (tie) as the dark horse(s). Will be very interesting to watch them do this in the mud/slop.

It's on Valverde's list so I will pick him. Sounds like he's riding Flanders too. Long overdue IMO.

You need a climber type on finale. That rules out Cance I think.

You're correct regarding the final climb. I don't remember, was that in when Canc won before? Could def be the final "selection" point. Valverde's has good results there, he could def be a factor.

He won twice in 2008 and 2012 and the finish has always been same (I think). But its mostly that the mix of starters have changed; the field gets stronger every year and climber types have come to realize its actually a race that suits them. That makes any repeat for Cance hard.

Glad to see this event flourish. The "Giants of the Road" contended with gravel back in the day. Great stuff!
Anyone know what kind of tires or other special gear they use for this event?
The few pics of the course I've seen show pretty buff gravel roads, so maybe no benefit from a dropper seatpost.

Clearly I can only plead ignorance.

Thanks Dale. That was quite a ride from Brambi. Nice to see him running with the big dogs.
