But this could be taken a step further and think of the new dynamics. Replacement riders on the fly. Madison racing does the Tour de France. Real time player changes a la ice hockey. Think how much faster the races would be. You could have Froome and Quntana going into the final climb fresh with replacements coming in at kilometer 10 and riding the first 160K. A whole new game.

(Anyone who has played ice hockey knows the 4 minutes you spend on the ice are seriously hard!)

No way.....stage races (and really bike racing) is a test of endurance. being able to swap out support riders completely undermines the basic tenet of the sport.

And the whole concept is ripe for cheating....need fresh riders for upcoming stages? No problem...have them fake being sick and *drop out*.

Nope....seriously dumb idea.

CK, so you don't think Madison Ave and the Tour should team up? How 'bout 21 day racing a al old time 6-day racing. 504 hours of non-stop action?

The only part of my first post that was serious was about ice hockey being seriously hard. But Madison racing is pretty cool. Well done hand-offs are a tactical weapon. Of course, in a field of 176 riders, real skill would be needed!
