I went for a bike ride and missed the races after the women's under 23. Came back and got to see the replay of the women't start and first lap before the video crapped out. What a start! That Ellen Noble is the real deal. But to have Compton right there when they came off the pavement, well that doesn't bode well for anyone who wants to beat her.

I know how the race turned out. Still in the dark re: the men. I'm hoping technology will allow me to watch it later.

The men's race was fantastic! Powers looked like the Powers from several years ago and rode smart and strong. When he and Hyde went clear they were killing each other! One of the best races I've seen. Fantastic bike skills, great tactics, strong guys, superb racing. Super cool to have seen.

Thought it was a great race....seems like most of the top-level races have the strongest guy separating himself early and then just rolling through....kinda boring.

Good lead group with a course that led to exciting racing.....love a race that comes down to the final lap. Was hoping J-Pow could pull off one last hurrah, but Hyde had way too much in the tank on that last lap.

Some moves that were cool to watch-- Powers taking the line away from Hyde going over the barriers on the last (or second to last) lap, Hyde trying to come around Powers and Powers hitting the gas to close the door, and Hyde's pass on the last lap going into the run-up. All three moves were textbook bike racing. Several other good moves but those stand out.

The brother of one of the girls I work with made the team for Worlds in Valkenburg. He was 7th in Nationals (Tristan Cowie). She's a great CX rider too and will lock up the local series this Sunday.

Worlds is in my former backyard.

Did any of you see the Women's race this morning? (I thought is would happen before the men so it never occurred to me to look today.) Based on the CyclingNews and VeloNews reports, wow! First two places putting in perhaps the hardest rides of their lives and almost perfect riding. Neither of them has anything to be ashamed of. And what a course. The VeloNews gallery shows some wild riding. (Not how dad taught those girls to ride bikes!)

I predicted van der Poel would suffer on that course. That's the clay I grew up in.

Too bad for Compton. She really would have deserved this one.
