I forgot until a few minutes ago today is the Nat'l Champs  Awards were happening for the men.  Dang!  I missed watching the Woman's race.  And summaries aren't out yet.  So all I know is Katie won by over 2 minutes in very slippery conditions.  At 40 yo.  15th straight.

I've been a fan of hers since watching her first two Nat's in Portland.  First time I had no idea who this woman was who dominated the race and it meant little to me, until I heard this was her first UCI race all season, that she started behind everyone with points - because she felt preserving her amateur status so she could ride the track with her blind tandem stoker was more important.  Next year, same thing.  (And several more seasons.)

Over the years, the women's field kept getting better and deeper.  And she kept on winning.

Big Katie fan here. I thought this was the year she missed at Nats. I thought wrong. I’d love nothing more than to see her win worlds, but I think father, err, mother time, may have a factor in this, so much young talent. We shall see in a month.

That was a tough course... I raced it a couple years ago when it was dry and it was brutal then, I can't imagine it with all the mud. Glad they changed the course a bit from Saturday to allow more actual bike riding.

Huge race for my buddy Sunny getting 2nd. She's had a great year- 2nd at the C-1 in Tulsa at Ruts-n-Guts and a ton of other race wins.

All races, all age groups are available to view in the link below...

Both Men's and Women's elite races looked brutal...riding through peanut butter for most of the course.

Hope this does not come across as a grinch-like point of view, just an observation, with no intention of disrespecting the extraordinary accomplishments of Ms. Compton. Rather curious what fellow forumites think.

If a male rider were as successful as K. Compton at a similar age, "Doper Doper Doper!!!" chants would ring out loudly, sure as day turns to night.

Less money on the women's side makes Compton far more credible than, say, Kent Bostic, Chris Horner, or Lance when some of us gullibles wanted to believe in him.
Or is that just our biases?

PS: former older top riders like Joaquim Agostinho and Beryl Burton are not included in this. Doping back then was weak and pathetic compared to what's availble in the modern era - except for autologous transfusions (bank your own blood, then get it back before the big event, like Lasse Viren or Connie Carpenter back when it was legal).

Oh, I have absolutely had those thoughts re: KFC. IMO, she has an internal need to win / dominate like so many others...a desire that led them to do whatever it took.

I have no idea if she has or is doping....but if she ever tested positive, I certainly would not be shocked in the slightest.
