Good for Fuglsang.....after playing second fiddle to Aliphalippe for most of the spring, he bags a big one.
And wow, what a save on that final descent!! |

I think everyone watching that live puckered up when his rear wheel slid out. Not sure if that was the result of insane handling skills or pure luck that he saved that. Off topic but can we pull together a fund to buy Adam Yates some new sunglasses? His head is dwarfed by the size of those things!!! Looks like something from a Mars mission. |

That was some save on descent. Woods for dork of day with one leg warmer on and one off. Otherwise super boring race. |

Definitely a boring race...weather undoubtedly played a role in that. As for the glasses, he also needs a smaller lid. Both are ridiculously oversized. And this overall trend of stooped big glasses (Oakley now in on the game) can end right now, please |

Coincidentally just saw news that a cycling legend distant uncle of mine (married into family) passed away. He got shortlisted for Dutch 1959 Tour de France squad but didn't make final cut (up against the likes of Peter Post and Jo de Roo for those who know their history). Quit professional cycling the year after on argument over salaries which involved a fist fight (he was as badass as they come). I rode with him a couple times much later when he was gobbling up the master's circuit. Incidentally we rode a cyclo version of LBL together in much the same cold and rain conditions as last Sunday in which I dropped the group on Redoute and only saw them again at finish. Must have been 18-19 myself; my dad was riding with us in support van; I remember they kept asking me if I wanted a rainjacket LOL. |

Sorry to hear that, OC. Cool that you got to know him and ride with him. Thanks for the link. I like his bike but couldn't read the name. What is it? English? Ben |

OC, Love this old time Dutch hard man history. Regarding the photo in the link to your hard man relative, Vredenstein is a tire company. Guess they've been around for a while. When I was in high school and starting to race, we youngsters would occasionally ride with a Dutch immigrant in his late 30s or very early 40s who came to work with what was way back then a tech giant on the east coast. Our training: long warm up with lots of chatting, then do intervals or a 5-15 min jams. So we always hoped to pick his Euro experienced brain during the chat part. Not a chance. His riding: go as hard as you can out of the driveway and for the entire ride, never have enough breath to talk. And he was fast. We mostly just tried to keep up with this hammerhead, never had that chat time. Now that I understand European road racing better, I get it. |

Vredestein was always my go to tire. They made a good product back then probably still do but got bought by larger outfit. What you encountered is difference between thinking you're serious and actually being serious. Not necessarily Dutch or European. You can come across that everywhere. My friend Uli is that way. Then again he's German and they're really nuts about being serious. |
