Cav may as well pack his bags after that performance today.

Another great ride by Visconti. Time is running out for Cadel.

Somebody needs to tell Navardauskas that he didn't win the stage. Unless he's just that excited about coming in second...

was really hoping Cav would make it back on (or have hung on) - not that it mattered anyway.
Fantastic effort by Visconti - god that kind of suffering is something you can hardly imagine
Talk about a buzz-kill for Navardauskas - lol. Doh!

I don't think I have ever witnessed a grand tour with this level of suffering. It is a body bag festival.

+1 Keith. Even relatively flat dry stages turn into hammerfests. That Cat3 climb near the end of yesterday's stage was Giro Top 10 separate themselves from rest. Most of the peleton is dead meat by now.
And its about -13C at top of Stelvio with snow falling. Worse conditions than when Breukink won. I doubt they are going up it.

Thanks, BN. Some pictures!
I predict this will go down as one of the toughest Giros, both for weather and how it is being ridden; the toughest despite so many mountain climbs being shortened and bypassed.

Don't forget to enjoy the quality of the racing while it's happening.

CERV, you got that! I feel like I am witnessing a 1940s classic. A race that hurts. And you see the pain. It doesn't appear to be masked by 10% more oxygen with bodies and minds fueled by testosterone. It looks like superb athletes who are paying the price of pushing too hard. And when they do go easy, "piano", I say "it's about time, guys!", not "this is the Giro; July when the big dogs race".
I am sure the drugs are there. But I am nearly as sure that those who expect to be tested are riding at a cleaner level than we have seen in decades. And I notice that these last few stages, those who shouldn't be there at the end aren't. They are riding easy minutes back. The finishing fields are down to not many more that those who have something at stake. None of them look at the top of their game when they cross the line.

Watch for these characters (minus me) along the TT route tomorrow. I'm sure they will be dressed a little warmer though. And Saturday is my favorite pass, the mighty Giau.
