Is it just me or do there seem to be more mechanicals in the pro ranks this year than in the past ? You never get much info on the cause, I'm sure in the best interest of the sponsors. If so is the cause, 11 speed tolerances or Electronic shifting?

Campy has been 11 for quite a while. Maybe with lawyer tabs a new bike is considered faster now?

I have watched a lot of the pro tour races this year and have seen 3 broken chains already. That is something I haven't seen often before. I do think the 11sp chains are either less robust or have a very fine tolerance for proper assembly.

No. Do we hear about them more? Yes. CE had ice in his cogs. That's pretty tough to pin on the groupo. Sure an old four speed cog set (free wheel) with more space would have allowed the ice to fall out. laurentja, you would be shocked to know how many chains the pros go through. More cameras and more media are just giving us a better inside view of what is going on.

I was thinking the same thing Ride.

Evans on stage 20, Cav's lead-out, + the other guy in the break who dropped his chain in the final Ks... plus others that I'm forgetting.

There seems to be more - or it's being reported on more now.

I've never been a fan of electronic shifting (Fabian and Jens Voight agreeing) as it doesn't improve anything other than small to big ring shifts under maximum power which I've never done or needed/wanted to do a single time in my cycling life. However - all the mechanicals are not on electronic shifting bikes as Omega QS is riding SRAM.

Less tolerances with the new stuff?
