Ben - VDPs time was 1 second of the Poggio KOM. It was fast and furious but the tailwind made it easy for numbers to stick around. The Top 10 of Poggio KOM is half half 2019 and 2021 names.

In this scenario I’m actually wondering if JAs attack was counterproductive and if DQS would have better banked on Bennett or what’s the other fast guys name who recently won a stage, Ballerini?

Agree with OC: Smart winner. And gutsy. He saved more than the chasers thought he had for the final 300m.
The rest of the podium rode well as well.
Merckx commented once that back in his day maybe 5 riders could ride the Poggio in the big ring (smaller cogs in the back back then), but in the current era it's dozens and dozens. Which makes it harder to win with brute power.

I think bennet was cooked after his flat around the Cipressa and I never saw Ballerini during the finale.

But you are right re: the tailwind.....some people are making a big deal about Sagan in 4th, but MSR is a a race you can "bluff" your way through and still get a decent result....and the tailwind / steadt pace up both the Cipressa and Poggio clearly helped him, IMO.
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!
