What a great race....full-on from 80K out with all the protagonists just trading blows. Master class in tactics by Deceunick - Quick Step.
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

The use of traffic island by Asgreen was brilliant. VDP looking over, realizing what was going on and going $4ite. Ben will be pleased when he sees this race.

The wolfpack works better when JA is not around. Just like they only became a wolfpack when Boonen retired.

van Aert looks to have lost explosiveness compared to last year. He attacked and then could not follow. Just like his attack on Poggio didn't stick. I think it's his focus on TA GC. Trying to be too many things at once. VDP was stuck in brilliant DQS tactics.

Yeah, I was surprised WvA blew like that after his attack....I mean it is bike racing 101 - Never go so hard with guys on your wheel that you can't go with the inevitable counter. Very weird.

Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

Kasper Asgreen has never been in my focus but what a ride today! I thought he was pulling the ultimate Q-S sacrifice but then he pulled another rabbit out of the hat!

Today, Q-S put on a clinic. How to do team tactics in a Belgian spring classic. (To partake in this clinic yo need to show up with the proper tools but that's another story. You can't just pick up an Asgreen at Home Depot.)

Edit: I haven't seen the race, just the commentary.  They mentioned the islands but what did Asgreen do to use them?

Asgreen took off on right side of the island just as rest of group steered to its left. Created just enough of a gap to make it happen.

BTW - the AG2R duo in chase group were pretty useless today. Each riding for their own chance it seems without working as a team.
