Great story that he wins the Stars and Stripes jersey (for a 4th time!). Congratulations to him for a smart and excellent ride. The "glass half empty" types can lament that a 39 year old wins this jersey, so what does that say about the state of US pro men's road cycling, but I say good for you Freddie, well done.

Cut and paste what I typed yesterday:
WOOOHOO Fast Freddie! I've had the opportunity to ride with FFR several times over the last 20 years. Initially because we have mutual friends and then in the last few years because he was in Boise for Exergy events. I know the "nice guy" label gets used a lot but IMO he is a truly nice guy.

I watched him win a stage of the tour of Georgia some years ago. Lots of props to him cause that was no slouch day either. He seemed to really appreciate the fans and hung around a bit after the podium ceremony. I'm not surprised about the nice guy label

I was surprised to see a 38 yr old win that frankly. It was also perhaps foolish to carry a guy with a sprint like that near the line. ex Pro Tour level sprinter, small group = racing for second.

Interesting article in VN @ his win.
basically saying that it sucks as he's a remnant of the doping era and wondering if he's clean. I'd like to think he had a super ride - a sprinter w/ as much experience as him after a long & difficult race .. you'd have to bet on him in a group.
Again - anyone doing anything amazing will always be considered a doper (in any sport) from here forward even to the local level wondering how guys can pull indefinitely when dudes drafting are pushing 400W
