Doing my morning CyclingNews read on the Basque Tour while listening to the oversexed alpha robin do battle yet again with his relentless adversary.   They've been at it for a couple of months now.  Start while I'm still in bed, go all morning and sometimes resume for a few more jousts in the afternoon.

Anyway, the Basquing part - Remco is impressive.  I'm guessing he'll be forced to overextend tomorrow and fall out of the GC, but still ...  I read that Van Aert(?), VDP(?), I cannot remember who, talked of himself being a self-made star, unlike Remco who has been created by Lefevre almost as a Q-S bot.  Well, maybe, but the bot is fun to watch! and he is learning to do a superb job of getting Q-S jerseys in the limelight.  Couldn't ask for much more this week.  TT podium with a brilliant ride.  Delivering Alaphillippe to first and two seconds with ferocious riding chase down breaks then delivering Alaphillippe almost flawlessly.  Today?  Well Lefevre couldn't ask for much more from a non-climber.  Podium, GC  After once again ripping the race apart.  5 days on the top two GC steps.

Oh, that relentless adversary - his reflection in a high window I need to modify a ladder to get to safely.

Unfortunate results for JV today....and may end up costing them the race. They gambled on letting Vingegaard get away with Remco and giving him a chance at overall victory. But either he or Vlasov lost traction on the very steep final pitch, which took them both down and they had to run their bikes across the line.

Now he is down :29' and Rog is over 1' down.

Roglic is a step below last year not sure why. It’s the first year for Vingegaard in a co-leadership role so that’s a bit of a mental new to him. Last year came out of nowhere.

Evenepoel is certainly a good lead out man for Alaphillipe but he was pretty far off Pog earlier this year. The jury is still out on his trajectory. He better deliver cause Lefevere invested a lot in support for him these past two years neglecting the classics squad and it has been showing big time.

Evenepoel may actually be better off focusing on one day races, at least for now. We already know he can do well there. His ability te recover seems to hold him back in stage races.

The huge pulls Evenepoel was taking stages 2-4 for Alaphillippe are not what a focused GC rider does. He did a lot of work to get Q-S quality air time but it came at a cost. I don't know if saving himself would have made a 24 second difference but not getting dropped and having to chase even just once today might have.

Nah those were pretty short efforts didn’t matter for today.

The issue is two climbing stages with lots of GC action in a row. In recent interviews he has sounded a bit doubtful about his climbing ability. This doubt started earlier this year after defeat at the hands (or legs) of Pog. But as he put it today, I’d least I’ve shown I can descend. Haha.

Ironically for this thread, Baskin-Robins just announced they will be selling ice cream-themed cruisers.
