For a minute it looked like Valverde would pull off a win.
On a local ride one of the guys asked Brad Huff about Valverde and how he's still competitive at his age.
"He's a genetic freak, but the years of doping have a residual effect."
I was surprised Pogačars showing wasn't better.
Good race. Something to entertain me on a pouring down rain day. |

Did not have Teuns down as a potential winner for La Fleche....honestly, I thought it was gonna be Valverde but he blew literally within sight of the line. Honestly looked like he sat up 9even though I know he didn't). Shocked to see Pog pop 200m from the line.... |

How about some props for Michael Woods! 6th place, not bad! Sorry, gotta root for him. He is a good friend of my neighbors. I met his parents last year when they were visiting Vermont from Canada. Makes it all the more real somehow.

Yes Pog popping was surprising especially since pre-race he sounded so confident about good form. But as he put it, when he won Liege he also didn't too great at Fleche so maybe its just not his hill (or a good hill to die on). Valverde being there was surprising since he is just returning from illness. JA still on questionable form. He's there but not really making an impact. QS should perhaps have gone for Evenepoel instead of having him try to set up JA. I literally watched this race for a total of 5 mins. The only 5 that matter. edit, just noticing Nibali pretty far down the list (34th). Also returning from Covid/illness and he was unsure about his form. Long way to go... |

Agree that it was a complete snoozer until the finale. OTOH, the women's race was much more interesting, albeit for 20k instead of 5. Regardless, good to see. |

Just reading a column about shameful ASO logistics of women race. They were eating breakfast 5 am w 8:30 am start. Flanders Classics has been doing women races right with finish in hour after men. |

Well the Masters “nutrition “ is best administered in the dead of night. |

Can't speak for all Masters but I was up at 3:00am this morning rooting through the 'fridge for something to eat. Finally settled for some stale popcorn that was on the counter... bleh. |

Speaking of nutrition - someone needs to feed those J-V rims. Two bonking in one race just doesn't cut it. Yes. they both had to do pursuits over cobbles stretches without the benefit of teammates (oops, inflated tires) but still, there was nothing unknown about the likelihood of those efforts being needed. |

Yeah, I know but there was no way I was willing to go down that rabbit hole with you.
