QS boxed him in so tightly it looked like an NHL penalty box.

That was over the top

They need to start penalizing teammates who benefot form these tactics, not just the riders who commit them. Lampaert couldn't care less if they penalized or even DQ'd him. Schmidt got the win and therefore Lampaert got his cut of the prize money.
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

My understanding was blocking; messing with a pace line rotation- slowing down at the front, skipping pulls, not working in a break was fine but impeding; physically preventing someone from advancing was a rule violation.

The rules and penalties need to be redefined. Wellens was way more gratuitous than I’d have been.

Thought I read yesterday that UCI will be looking deeper into this.

I didn't see this but that was always my understanding.  If a team wanted to ride shoulder to shoulder clear across the road, well, it was my responsibility to be in front of them before they started.

I agree that UCI should look at this, but - don't penalize a team for taking actions you don't like that don't cross any of the rules you have set down.

There would not be any further penalties for team I am sure. The rules are the rules. The deeper look would be about whether the rules need adjusting to better deal with situations like this.
