I still maintain that the course was not worthy of a "world championship" level event, but the course was significantly improved over last years Bike Path World Championships. Keegan did well to represent himself given the course did not really suit his abilities / skillset....it was very short and most of the climbs were paved or not very technical (but steep!). The US team was also massively handicapped by their starting positions. Most fo them were ~180+ out of 220 riders, so Keegan largely had to fend for himself. Mahoric rode a superb race and used his bike handling skills to great effect. A well-deserved victory. Kasia Niewiedoma surprised me as I thought Demi was gonna wipe up the field....very happy to see her get a big win. She is also going to race Big Sugar in 2 weeks. I hope she comes to fully race the event instead of just treating it like a holiday as most euro pros do. Hopefully the jersey gives her the extra motivation to fully race (even though she probably won't wear it). Finally, a hearty Middle Finger Salute to the UCI and organizers for not providing live coverage of the women's race, in this, the year of our lord 2023. UNbelievable.
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

Blame Filippo Pozzato, not sure how much the forced late organizer switch factored into improved course but lack of womens' race coverage.
I will say that separate womens start compared to joint start during Euro gravel worlds is massively better. Weird dynamics for women during Euro champs because of riding between various male groups.

BTW - Belgium in 2024. That should make for a stellar course and race coverage. Hmmm, this is right around time I visit the old folks annually. Maybe attendance is in the cards. Hmmm.

This has been a growing concern in the US races, as well....
I have always supported the idea of a mass start because, at least for a period of time until now, it was an inclusionary move and women got to race in much bigger fields as the sport continues to be male-dominated. And the women seemed to prefer it, as well.
The pendulum seems to be swinging the other way with more of female races concerned about the undue influence of male races on their race, especially in the early parts of a race.
Either way, I think this is a question that the women need to answer vs. the male-dominated bureaucracy determine.
