Surprise win by Orica....not too shabby for 2 days work for the Aussies!!!
Surprised by the time loss by BMC. I wouldn't have them pegged to win, but would have expected a smaller time gap.
Ted King is out of the TdF after missing the time cuts. Dude was getting gapped literally out of the start ramp.....that just plain sucks. Had to ride his road bike because of the pain.
Andy seems to eb holding his own....for now. Been up front on the climbs and did not get dropped in the TTT. I still expect him to fade in the high mountains, but his form finally seems to be returning.
And somebody please put Uncle Phil out to pasture. He said the tiome lost for Cadel wasn't a big deal, but then talked about how bad the time was for RS and Andy.....THEY WERE ONLY 3" apart!!!!!
I also laughed how he said that when Bakelants locked up his rear wheel in that left turn that it cost the team 1 or 2". Uhhhhh, no it didn't. The lead riders kept their pace and never noticed. It cost Bakelants a little bit of energy to close the gap, but the pace never changed. But I guess you gotta understand bike racing to know the difference.... |

And why don't paragraphs show up when you start a new thread, or using the "Full Reply" instead a "quick Reply"? Kind of annoying. |

IMO the big winner today is Contador. Having Mick Rogers and other strong TTers on the team helped greatly. If you remember how much time the Sky bunch put into everyone else at the Dauphine, losing only 6 seconds today to Froome was huge. Othr GC hopefuls werent so lucky |

Phil needs to pack a suitcase of courage....for retirement said I wasn't going to watch, but I am. Can hardly stand to miss a piece of the drama...and to see if HGH really affects the chins and foreheads of the Sky team in the long term A bit surprised to see Saxo and Sky finish so close, bodes well for Bert. Thinking the crashes of the first day will have an impact on Sky for the rest of the Tour and Bert might be feeling A-OK. It doesn't look as if the TTT separated the contenders all that much considering the climbing on the horizon. Should make for something to watch |

The best thing the organizers did was to keep the TTT short....that automatically limits prevents the massive time gaps that have eliminated contenders in the past. I have been advocating that for a LONG time (back in the 90's). It just makes sense....you still keep the spectacle of the stage, which people love, but it still leaves the climbers or GC guys with weaker teams in contention. Agreed with Stronz that AC was a big winner today. |

I concur. A very good day for Saxo/Contador Another possible plus for Contador; Rodriguez another 19 seconds back. Maybe a potential ally in the high mountains? AC should be able to put enough time into Rodriguez in the TTs to be safe against time bonuses and small time losses at mountain finishes and JR, sitting in 34th place could have real incentive ro work with AC to get closer to the podium. This could be fun to watch! Ben |

Why can't the french ride single file? French teams TTTs looked liked total chaos. Nice day for Gerrans and Co. Tour is already a success for the Aussies. |

Its kind of funny reading/listening to commentators. I was reading the blow-by-blow on cyclingnews and Susan (I think) typed that BMC will be upset to lose that time to Orica in the GC battle. Maybe she was referring to the GC today or the GC battle in general but... Honestely OGE surprised me. I picked OPQS, Sky and Saxo to duke it out for the win with Garmin, BMC and Movistar in there with them. So best case in my mind OGE would crack the top 10. Lotto also surprised me. |

Not sure they train together a ton, those french teams. Have not watched the stage yet, but it also does not really surprise me. Those teams are made up of attackers and opportunists, not rollleurs. Agree with most about saxo. That surprised me. the rest of the results seem right. |

I was tired of listening to Phil and Paul also until I watched the Giro. I could not understand a word the commentators were saying and BeInSports did not support captions. i imagine the bus driver is smiling now... |
