| For me right up there with fit is a bug screen. Was scooping bees into my helmet every other ride...I'm over being stung. Glad I don't have to worry about a few watts! |

I think the Evade is better than the Giro Air Attack (but that is growing on me). However, I think the best aero road lid is the LG Course. It is apprently testing very well in the wind tunnel, even besting some full-on TT lids. Best of all, it looks like a normal lid.
I honestly don't know why EuropeCar didn't use these lids on every single stage. Seems like a win-win.

| I don't care for it. IMHO, helmets for the non-pros should combine some better looking aesthetic. I'll stick with my other Specialized helmets (S3 and Prevail) as this looks like the front end of a jet engine and I'm just not that fast, |

Side note - the Evade looks MUCH better (IMO) in some of the "stock" colors:
If you are racing, aero lids are definitely worth considering. I am actually kinda surprised by the number I have seen out riding so far (primarily the Giro). They are also great for long-course triathletes or tine trialists who have a predomonantly "head down" position.
Me, I'm going old skool this year.....picked up a 90's era vintage Bell Vortex earlier this year (still legal to use). Gives me a nice short tail but is still super-aero (albeit HOT). Doing a Sprint tri this weekend where I will be testing it out!!

So I have been thinking about this aero helmets must be hot thing. Fact, helmets don't make me sweat, going hard does. I often climb with my helmet on my camelback on longish dirt climbs simply for sweat management. Sweat management is what is important to me and I have had so called well ventilated helmets that seem to funnel sweat into my eyes. My Lazer is brutally bad for that. Don't know why. The Air Attack is very good in that respect, as good as just about any helmet I have ever had even as good as a sweat band that I wore back in the day.
Since the efudex thing I have decided that I need helmets with few vents so the Air Attack is perfect there. And I cut my hair really short this morning and boy that really changes things. Off road I use what i consider to be a pretty odd looking, maybe even fugly Urge Enduromatic. Cheap at $100 here. No occipital bun clamp but it does not move on me at all and is very light. But the interesting thing is the goofy gangsta pad. It actually works. The fit pad at the front hangs out about 10mm below the helmet edge and curls out a bit. Looks wrong but the sweat that drips off does so in front of the eyewear more or less and I guess a fair bit of evaporation happens at that exposed edge too.
I don't care for the look of the Specialized aero lid as much as the Giro. POC are about to release a new road helmet shortly as well as an aero version. Clothes too. I think that is the Ryder Hesjedal connection. |
