From CN: "Martin said he had planned to attack, but that he had hoped that three or four riders would then come across. Marco Pinotti (BMC) did attempt to do exactly that, but failed to make contact. Martin then ploughed on regardless." Won the Jackie Durand award for the day for sure.

those last couple kms were awesome to watch. they almost had him, let him slip again, only for sprinters to pip him couple tens of metres before the finish.

training day for Martin.

I like it when the sprinters get it right. It's perfection.

i like to see the long shots win; sprints become so predictable.

I don't think that was a case of the sprinters getting it right. They thought catching him was a forgone conclusion with 5km to go. That last km was more a case of, "oh crap, he could actually stay away" and a lot of desperate chasing.

Yup more luck than wisdom yesterday. Same deal again today but with reverse outcome. There's no real sprinters trains in Vuelta which is a good thing, making the sprints more like they should be, chaos.

Gilbert put perhaps in a bit much work in to stay away today, desperate for a win, allowing Stybar to pip him.
