i wonder if they will still be able to use buses and trains downtown?

The poll, on an automobile blog site no less, is running 54% in favor of the move toward banning cars from the city center.

Try that in the US and people's heads explode.

Yup, heads would explode.

I've thought about this idea in my city, we have two main blocks with shops, restaurants, a uni, etc. It would be vastly improved without cars, traffic, angry cagers, honks, etc.

But, to suggest people walk a few hundred feet, well, that is a bizarre idea.

I'd love to see fewer cars on a daily basis. It would be nice.

I am always amazed that people will pass by empty spaces in a parking lot and then wait for five minutes or so until someone comes out of the store, loads their things into their car and departs their space, all to park 50 feet closer to the store.

^Yep, those makes me feel as if I'm living on a planet with aliens. How in the heck can I get along with someone on bigger issues when something as simple as walking is a big gap between our mindsets?

Cars do very strange things to humans. Making them more aggressive, more entitled, lazy. I always think about how when on a bike if you want to pass, you'd better be ready to expend energy. In a car you just move your ankle. How much more courteous would drivers be if insane driving took actual effort and energy?

I'm very rarely in a car these days, do most of my moving about by bicycle and foot. I love that I'm always making progress towards my destination. I really go bonkers sitting in traffic AND dealing with people who treat driving as a right, not a privilege, and treat a car as if it isn't a large, heavy, deadly tool.

I like to say most car accidents aren't accidents at all, but very, very predictable. Driving, texting, eating, putting on lipstick, yelling at the kids, petting the lap dog...Oh my gosh, you drove into another car?! Hard to believe!

That, and the people who leave a store, walk to their car and drive 100 yds down the same strip mall to go to the next store.
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!
