Disc brakes and CX. Vos won comfortably on discs. (Brakes would have made no difference.) Stybar won on cantis in a very hard fought battle with Nys, also in cantis: both riders crashed and Stybar also hit the barriers early.
I started this thread thinking Nys was on discs, then went to CyclingNews and saw that Nys was on cantis. So the epic disc vs canti did not happen. Would the outcome have been different had Nys gone disc?
Let the speculation begin!

mud = cantis. simple. i am sure those guys know what they're doing and i'll bet they tried both ahead of race. A more interesting discussion perhaps. Stybar pretty much indicated it didn't feel like Worlds pressure to him as it was " just preparation for the road". Does this devalue the sport? A lot of the Belgian supporters certainly aren't happy with it although Nys has set them straight.

Nys handled it with class in fact they both handled it well.

I pulled some very nice, high-end cantilever brakes off my cx race bike for some TRP CX8.4 v-brakes. HUGE improvement. I know - the PROS don't need to brake, much. I love the Vs, so much that I'm even going to pull the cantis off my commuter bike in favor or v's.
My bikes are not disc compatible, and I've never worked on them, so I'm a bit hesitant. But, I heard they aren't that complicated.

I think at this stage of the development game, it is still very much "horses for courses", or picking the right arrow in your quiver.
But the idea that discs were never gonna penetrate the highest levels of 'cross has been completely nullified now. Nys won a WC on his disc bike and now Vos winds the rainbow jersey on hers. That argument is well and truly dead.
Whether discs become the "standard" in 'cross is still very much in question....and even more so for the road.
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

Brakes just slow you down. Who needs them.
