As I was riding in crowded beach town traffic this afternoon, a guy in a pick-up truck tooted his horn at me and hollered "keep right". As the traffic was stop-and-go, I caught up to him quickly. I stopped and explained I was not all the way to the right because of the parked cars; you never know when a door will open. He said, "Oh, now I understand." He was concerned because it is a holiday weekend, and he thought I might have been .under the influence. The light turned green, we said good-bye, and went on our ways.

usually people who say that to me are 1) screaming it, and 2) try to make me understand I don't belong on the road and certainly not in front of them on "their" road.

But, occasionally I run into that rare person who take constructive criticism in the right way. For instance I was walking across a street into a store one day and a guy in a big 4x4 truck blew through a stop sign right in front of me. I didm' say anything but I looked at him shaking my head. Later, in the store this red-neck looking guy walks right up to me trying to be intimidating and says "you got a problem with my driving?" I told him he probably didn't see the stop sign he ran as I was walking across the road. To my surprise he just said. "oh, Sorry, I'll be more careful next time." Made my day, really, to have someone actually accept the facts of the matter and take responsibility. I thanked him for his positive attitude and we parted ways.

it's good when people "Get It"
I had one guy cut it close to me one day, as he rolled by me I said "Give me some room" He says. "Can't you see I'm trying to get to the Motor Vehicle Dept." I say " For what, to renew your revoked drivers license?" We both laughed, he apologized, and he said, "I'll give you more room next time"
I still crack up every time I think about that story

Generally, I have a problem with people who feel a need to police the world.
