Not been able or to be honest, interested in the TdF with this big fire here in Washington. Had a very close call. Just got power back and my first shot at internet. Down at the laundromat doing smoky laundry. I just updated my house blog with fire pics, and will be adding more... http://balkyhill.blogspot.com

Tour-wise, a lot. Been a great Tour. Every stage I have followed has been riveting. Granted, the final outcome (at least the top step) hasn't been in much doubt for a while. But many subplots, some really fun to watch. Young riders jersey and the polkadot have both been contested hotly. There are young French and Polish riders that have had inspirational Tours. The French are back. (See the thread about the Tour winners and losers.)

Even the guy who is sitting comfortably in the lead has been a lot of fun to watch. Tinkoff-Saxo has remodeled into a stage machine after losing their #1 and have animated many stages

In all, it has been a lot of fun. Really hard racing. Very few easy days for anyone. And (here's crossed fingers) almost scandal free. (One rider did get tossed for hanging on to the team car.)

It's all running together now for me. I cannot remember the key Alpine stages. But watch #5 if you get a chance. (And that footage will not disappear. It's classic.) Stage 18 yesterday. And that helicopter view of Nibali late in the stage before rest day #2! (Stage 16?)

Wait...huck, fire in Methow Valley area? Glad you escaped unharmed! Wow, those pics are impressive.

We have Methow down as backup for our camping trip to Olympic Peninsula week after next in case weather on coast turns sour. Interior BC has had a lot of fires but I hadn't been paying attention to WA.

So we should make different backup plan?

You could watch the cobble stage; the rest was just like any old tour.

Dayum! Scary pics. I would love to buy the flight crews and ground crews a beer or two. I had a neighbor whose son was killed in a fire crew plane crash. That job takes guts.

SxS - those guys are amazing - they carry a large sack.

OC - the west side of the valley is untouched from Twisp northward - still lots of gorgeous places to camp and hike. It is the largest fire in Washington State history.
