Here's the a letter to the editor from today's NY Times that I though you'd all enjoy: To the Editor: Re “My Life in Bicycles” (Op-Ed, Aug. 18): Much as for Jennifer Finney Boylan, bicycling occupies a special place in my heart. The ability to ride from my house into the nearby hills and countryside transports me from the workaday world to a peaceful, meditative experience. Climbing up one of the many roads to the hills is my version of the suffering of the faithful. This is rewarded with the exhilaration of a brisk descent down the other side or a well-paced ride through the rolling hills and farmland. Alone with my bicycle and riding with the music of my gears are as close as I get to spirituality.

this:
“Every time I see an adult on a bicycle I no longer despair for the future of the human race.” ~ H.G. Wells

and this:
“You don’t suffer, kill yourself and take the risks I take just for money. I love bicycling.” ~ Greg LeMond
