I wouldn't mind him so much if only he'd hustle

The motorbike dude that's been starting to get in the habit of using the shoulder/bike lane to bypass the long lineups of cars down Cariboo hill. Couple months ago I noticed that he got in the lane after I zipped by him; now he's there regularly. I don't begrudge any 2-wheeled fellow commuters from bypassing the long lines of cars but today I had to seriously hit the brakes coming behind him and lost my momentum for hitting the HWY1 overpass. Typically I take that ramp at max speed so I don't have to gear down but not so much today

OC, if you come to a light beside him sometime, you might point out that getting a running start on hills is a big boost for you and that you would be grateful if when he saw you coming behind him on a downhill, that he would be doing you a big favor if he could pull aside and let you keep your speed or go fast. I suspect he hasn't done a lot of thinking along those lines.

I can relate big time! At Cycle Oregon, I got really good at estimating what riders would do at hill bottoms. Now, the fast guys hit the bottoms a lot faster than me (riding fixed) and I could usually blast past the slower ones before I got there. But early on, frequently there was real slowing and riders sorta passing but not going any faster than those they have pulled out to past. Me? I just want to blast on the early parts of hills I can hit with speed, then carry that high RPM as far as I can. Huge benefit! Slowing to that group cluster speed was, for me, the ultimate leg killer!
