i read in bicycling mag that boise was getting rid of their protected bike lanes. being the magazine it is, they didn't give any details. isn't someone on this forum from boise?

Who knows what's really going on there but it seems that cities get all wrapped around the idea of creating bike infrastructure and they often do it badly.

What should really be the focus is making corridors that are narrower and with slower speed such that a human might feel more welcome moving about without a car.

Sometimes you need a bike lane and it is appropriate, but often it is just a way to marginalize cyclists without improving our safety. I couldn't tell from the Statesman article, and I am reluctant to search out the Bicycling article because they rarely have a thoughtful take on real issues.

that sucks when a lot of cities are cutting a lot of streets from 2 lanes one way, to one lane, and a dedicated bike lane. Albq. N.M. is one of those cities, very preogressive.
Maybe Boise is promoting more MTB riding, which I will say is one of the most epic and fun trail systems in the country
