Nick, you mentioned that you were in Albuquerque, which bike shop do you use?
Two Wheel Drive is still one of my favs, I have known Charlie since he opened that shop, good to see that some things never change, Bike Coop is great, their new location is not too bad, and Greg is a good guy, he used to build my racing wheels for me in the 90's
Just getting to know the Bikeworks guys, good crew, great vibe in that shop
Fat Tire is a great MTB shop, they had a rough patch, but finally got rid of the angry guys that used to work there

Hey Gonzo. I don't "use" a bike shop much. I buy online and do all of my own work. Even building wheels. That being said, you pretty much nailed it, when I've wanted to/needed to buy local: Two Wheel Drive and Bike Coop. Two Wheel Drive reminds me a little more of the old school bike shops of my yoot. Bike Coop is great, but caters a little more to the college crowd. I haven't been to their new location. My friend who's even older school than me likes Fixed and Free. By the name, I thought it would be a hipster joint. And maybe it is. But I started road riding in the early '80's and he did in the late '70's, so if he likes it, it might worth a checking out.

My online "discovery" FWIW is TotalCycling in Ireland. It seems if you order a pair of socks or a dozen tires, shipping is $30. But you realize what a crock cycling prices are when you see what things cost other places. With the goat heads, I buy six to 12 Conti folding Gatorskins at (last time) $35 each, vs the $50 in the US.

Have fun mang. I just went for two rides at 20 miles each at like 10mph for the first time in MONTHS. Otherwise, I offer to go riding. LOL.

Wow. Didn't know that. I haven't been on a "group ride" in several years. I'm kinda outta the loop.

Also, The Cycle Cave is a good place. On Menaul. There's a club, not sure if they're out of the shop, but they have (have had) rides that leave from the shop, complete with coffee and donuts to start. Hey, can't beat that. LOL. Well, I'm not much of a donut guy. Scones? Now we're talkin'.

wow, cycle cave, they have been there since i was a youngster, early seventies for sure, used to be a really mean old man there that owned it, really hated us BMX kids, heard his son runs it now.
I'm with you Nick, do all of my own maint. but still like to just pop into some shops, especially Two Wheel Drive, love the "Vintage Room" in the back, some great deals on some pretty nice old steel, and other bikes back there

All this talk about Abq made me go find some New Mexican food on Friday (at a place GJanney goes). It wasn't the same.

Gonzo,

Yeah, Cycle Cave doesn't have that old school hang out vibe, but definitely not Performance. LOL. So, SideBySide, I guess you used to live here? Also, any NYC'ers? I grew up in NY, and before racing, I did AYH tours as a kid. Going to AYH on Spring St., with those wooden floors? Magical.

I had a close friend who lived there. I used to go out four or five times a year, until he split from his wife and moved to LA.

oh yeah, don't get me started on some of my old favorite haunts down there for New Mexican food, M&M Cafe that is on like 1st and Silver? Hope it's still there El Modelo, on South 2nd St south of Bridge, best carry out in town, which is near the Beralis Coffee house on 4th and Bridge, even Obama hit that place! ha ha ha, El Camino on N. 4th by Osuna, great food, great prices. Old School Garcia's on 4th and Mountain Rd.
My wife is always a huge fan of the Frontier, can't remember the name, but that reminds her of her student days, also cehck out Charlies Back Door, in Hoffmantown on Wyoming and Menaul, it's a dark and dingy old bar, but the Mexican food there is awesome, I could go on for days...........just hard for me to get out of Santa Fe these days....

I know exactly what you mean about Frontier. Exactly a college place, not really my favorite. El Patio was our usual haunt.
