Where should one go to rent a decent road bike in Madison? Tagging along on my wife's trip for EPIC training the end of September.

Check Machnery Row bicycles in Madison....been there a few times and seems like a decent shop. It is right on Lake Monona, very close to the start of the IMWI swim.

Too bad the trip wasn't in early September...you could watch me suffer through my IM on Sept. 11th!

Sorry for the following geezer reminisce:
Madison was one of the major centers of US cycling back in the early 1970s, along with the track in nearby northwestern Illinois. The road nats were held in Madson frequently and Madison men and women were frequently on the podium.
Perhaps the epicenter bike shop back then in this epicenter city was the "Yellow Jersey". (Get it? Lots of cows in Wisconsin.)
This old fart wonders if the Yellow Jersey still exists and if so in what form in this era of Trek Specialized Resistance-Is-Futile Corporate bicycle sales.

This is the old cancer causing un PC bottle style. Got a few thousand miles on it.

Now that Spud got his answer, I don't feel too bad hijacking the thread a wee bit. But once reminiscing and cycling get fused, I can't help myself. Before I got into bike racing in the early '80's, I did a few American Youth Hostel trips out of NYC instead of summer camps as kid. I found a Facebook page with all of these photos from the AYH store in SOHO, NYC. Wood floors, camping and cycling gear. Hippy beards. Aww, man. What a time.

One trip, a bunch of us teenagers met the twenty-something year old leader at the Manhattan side of the George Washington Bridge. Then we spent three weeks riding fully loaded bikes to Montreal, taking Amtrak home.
