I'm frantically trying to get into shape so I don't humiliate myself in two week at a Fondo I've entered. Saturday some guys were doing a 200k Brevet and I figured I'd tag along.

The route was pretty much out and back. Straight west, do a 180 and back home straight east.
We had a strong side wind that we bucked all day. On top of that nobody had heard of an echelon and was not interested in doing anything other than ride the gutter for miles on end. Oh well, it was still a great ride with a fantastic lunch and slab of pie at the turnaround point.

Monday my car needed service so rather than just sit around and wait I told the shop I'd just ride my bike home and pick it up in a day. 40 miles straight south in to a headwind the whole way. There was a half-mile section when I rolled into my subdivision that I had a tail wind. Half a mile.

And today going to get the car? Wind shifted and it was blowing from the WNW. Again, a quartering headwind.

Somebody tell me how this is going to make me tougher. I'll be back in a couple hours, I'm off to take a nap

Over 200 miles and less than 20 of it with a tail wind.

I too am a hater of the wind. Seems as though everyday, just as my work day is about to end, the friggin wind starts to pick up. I figure, it sure beats sitting on a trainer.

Guess I'm lucky...I live in the foothills and most the roads are sheltered from the wind. Never much of a problem. Try to avoiding a lot of climbing is another matter....

just consider it hill training a friend once told me............yeah right!

It's becoming the "Windy Season" in New Mexico, here we have five seasons.......summer, fall, winter, spring, and wind. We have had a few bad days, 40mph or so, but it's early, some days can be close to 70mph in the spring, ugh.............some years are worse than others, we'll see
My wife loves to give me a hard time, "You will ride in singe digit temps all winter, but a little wind scares you?" heck yeah.........I'd rather stay home than ride in any wind.
And we have that tricky wind, head wind for 40 miles or so, you are thinking, sweet, I'll have a tailwind home, then it changes directions, and I get my butt kicked both ways

On wicked windy days, I have Alexa flip a coin for me, to see if I ride or not :-)
