I'm frantically trying to get into shape so I don't humiliate myself in two week at a Fondo I've entered. Saturday some guys were doing a 200k Brevet and I figured I'd tag along.
The route was pretty much out and back. Straight west, do a 180 and back home straight east.
We had a strong side wind that we bucked all day. On top of that nobody had heard of an echelon and was not interested in doing anything other than ride the gutter for miles on end. Oh well, it was still a great ride with a fantastic lunch and slab of pie at the turnaround point.
Monday my car needed service so rather than just sit around and wait I told the shop I'd just ride my bike home and pick it up in a day. 40 miles straight south in to a headwind the whole way. There was a half-mile section when I rolled into my subdivision that I had a tail wind. Half a mile.
And today going to get the car? Wind shifted and it was blowing from the WNW. Again, a quartering headwind.
Somebody tell me how this is going to make me tougher. I'll be back in a couple hours, I'm off to take a nap
Over 200 miles and less than 20 of it with a tail wind.
