Bring a road, mtb or just rent when we get there? Buddy has landed a nice condo in Princeville for late September, Wives know we guys will go bonkers if we don't get a few rides in while there. I'd like to do at least three solid rides. Found Kuai Cycles with some Specialized rides available. At $75 each way to bring one of my old bikes over the finances are a wash and the hassle factor goes to near zero. Thoughts? GJanney, did you cycle Kauai or were you on Maui?

Whatever you do, don't ride Powerline. Ruts so big you can dump a whole bike park in there. There is supposed to be good MTBing on the island though but I did not have time to pursue. Kauai cycles should have trail info.

Drove most of the island and most I would not ride. But the road up Waimea Canyon is sweet.

Then again, hiking the canyon is sweeter. Tons of good hikes on the island. We did Hanakapi'ai Falls, Na Pali Coast, awesome.

Stayed in Princeville too; great part of the island but getting to the southside requires patience with traffic. Typically leave early to avoid traffic.

Thanks. Second trip for our friends and us to Kauai. Familiar with the traffic, narrow roads, and the Canyon. Will be calling the Kauai Cycles folks to get a read from them. I'd prefer to do 10 miles of intense single track a day than 30 - 50 miles of sketchy highway miles. But both my friend Frank and I are serious veterans of riding on narrow roads with a lot of traffic.

Main plan is to get out early in the AM - 7ish and back to condo no later than 10 so we can hang out with our wives before hitting the beach and hiking trails / kayaks.

Looks like I may be headed there at Thanksgiving, so please share what you find JP.
