What is the longest you've ever gone without riding? Due to an injury doesn't count. I haven't been on my bike since mid January. I know building this house is time consuming, and work was crazy for awhile, working 12 hour days, but I just can't seem to find that motivation to get out and ride. I do hope that drive returns at some point.

About six months for me. It was when I started work after I finished graduate school and I was just overwhelmed. The drive finally came back though. Other than injury, nothing since then (work, kids, etc.) has kept me off the bike that long. That said I'm having terrible motivation issues about the bike these days. I'm working out regularly by riding, swimming and lifting. But I'm just ambivalent about the riding part. I can't put my finger on why - maybe it's a combination of burnout, lack of any specific training goals and being really tired of feeling at risk from the cars on the road here in Orange County (I was hit pretty seriously about 6 years ago). I keep telling myself that it's just a matter of where I'm at in life with work and family and that the passion for riding will come back but I really don't know if it will. It's a weird place to be given how much riding has been a part of my life over the years and how many nice bikes I have sitting in my garage :-) But I know that riding has to be stress reliever for me and not a stress inducer, so I'm trying to let it play out and not force it. Easier said than done.

Hang in there. My guess is that you're just at capacity right now with your house and work and that when things lighten up you'll get back to it.

You got a lot going on Spud....the desir to ride will come back once things settle down a bit.

It may be good stress management if you can force your way out the door, but don’t sweat the motivation aspect. It will still be there.
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

Nine years. From 1990 to 1999. Took it up again after I retired. Motivation was not the problem. Finding the time and shift work did me in. If you can just ride a few days a week, it will help. Motivation is always a problem for me. I never know what kind of ride I will have until I get out there for awhile. Some of my best rides is when I feel like crap.
