Week ago Sunday early morning I felt unwell- tired, achey, running a fever. Went in Monday afternoon to get tested and got called the next morning... Covid-19 positive.
A couple days later my wife did as well.
Tired all the time, low energy, got winded walking up a flight of stairs. It felt like I was at 12,000' elevation.
Completely lost my sense of smell. Bowl of diced onions? Nothing. Bottle of peppermint oil. Can't differentiate between it and tap water. Taste is still there but not as acute as before.
We holed up and are a bit stir crazy but have plenty of groceries, books, entertainment, etc.
We're officially off quarantine but going to give it another could days before getting out. I've done an hour on the trainer every day for a week but at a pretty low effort. Just enough to keep the legs loose.
Looks like we have escaped severe illness but the long term effects are an unknown.
Stay safe everyone. |

Oh $4it...glad you guys don’t seem to have major symptoms (in the grand scheme of things, that is). Take your time bouncing back...going into winter and it ain’t like there are any races going on anytime soon. My middle daughter tested positive a few weeks ago at school, but WS either asymptomatic or at worst had some nasal congestion. |

Oh no!! Have you had any weird 'zinging' sensations in your chest? My wife was one of the first people around here to have it. A healthcare worker, she got it before she even had a mask to protect herself. Symptoms very similar to yours. Lasted a few weeks with little long-term effects aside from consistent insomnia and fatigue. She got it AGAIN a few weeks ago but it was far less severe. I'm guessing it was due to a reduced viral load. I'm extremely concerned about the overall long-term effects. Still not sure if I had it or not, but shortly after her first time with the virus, I suffered from crippling headache for 10 days straight. Like, full-on migraine headache that will almost make you cry in pain. My test came up negative so...who freaking knows. Which leads me to the vaccine. We haven't even known of this virus to have existed for 12 months yet, so are we to have full confidence in a vaccine that has had NO long-term trials? And one that was aggressively pushed out for political reasons? We're to trust THEM? I'm in no way an anti-vaxxer but I think we should approach this one with extreme caution. Take care of yourself and take it easy too. That virus may still be floating around in your system, just waiting for an opportunity. |

6ix, interesting info about your wife getting it a second time. There are so many unknowns with this it's frightening- long term side effects, reoccurrence, viral mutations, vaccine side effects, vaccine efficacy. I'll get the vaccine when it comes out but I'm making darn sure it's from Pfizer pharmaceutical and not Pfizer Landscaping. You can never be too careful

And one that was aggressively pushed out for political reasons? We're to trust THEM? Worth noting that Pfizer was NOT part of Operation Warp Speed. They took advantage of the public / private partnership and the $$ to guarantee sales to the US govt, but they developed their vaccine completely independently, with no political oversight. If a vaccine had come out before Election Day at the urging of the Orange Fuckopotamus, then no fooking way I would take it. This one, I’d have no problem getting in line for. |

Why did I read “I’ve got cookies “. Must be lunchtime. Hope you avoid serious symptoms. Get well. My parents had a close call with one of my mom’s brothers getting it just when he was making a round along different siblings. |

Dale, hope you come through this with no long term issues. Pfizer got a guarantee from the US that we would buy a gazillion doses if their vaccine works. They didn't take government money for research. They are so rich and confident they could make an effective vaccine that they chose this riskier but potentially more profitable route. |

Im more than sorry to hear your news. I had to be tested for a procedure and had no problems and only know a few out lining friends that have been positive. Hope things go well. As far as the vaccine I don't think for a moment that the red head has any control over vaccines. If he did they would of been out a month ago. I trust the process. Funny how big Pharma was one of the evil one's a year ago and now we're pinning our hopes on them. |

Thanks everyone. Your well wishes are more meaningful than you realize. Two weeks today, ten days without a fever. Might get out for an easy spin tomorrow. It’ll be a nice change from the trainer.
Feeling pretty good now. |

Dale, I've taken my time responding here. Really don't want to be glib. Also aware this disease runs from completely asymptomatic to fatal or permanently life changing. I've lived through that last one. (Very different reason and outcome, but still ...) What I see is that we have to do or be prepared to do three things. The best possible option in front of us. (Being careful and smart. Doing our best to not infect others. Taking appropriate actions and not being locked in denial.) Accept what is. (The toughest one. Includes accepting all the ramifications. For me, that meant accepting my life's dreams shattered at 25 years old.) And lastly, keeping up the spiritual fight. Not letting this (or anything else) crush our soul. Dale, it sounds like you are getting off lightly (all your riding is probably a big part of that - doing your best, taking appropriate actions). I've never met you, but I've known you long enough to know you're a warrior. You can do both the acceptance piece and keep up that fight. Do it. You have both the task and gift of being a beacon for others. Being that beacon is the gift to others that comes back as a gift to you, in fact a bigger gift than what you bestowed. I'm hoping I am not put in your place. I took on a housemate several years ago who would have a tough time getting any decent housing and who is very health compromised. If I bring this disease home, I doubt he ill make it. I am slowly coming to accept that my world is going to get a lot smaller as this pandemic ratchets up in my state. (Thank you, Gov. Brown, for pro-actively slowing it.) Go for that ride. (And if it looks like one of my post-head injury rides speed-wise, you get to practice that acceptance bit. Funny, you've been on the trainer. I was hanging out at the bike shop I used to go after hours before the crash. The mechanic looked after me. (I had no idea - that took me years to figure out.) When I expressed interest in racing again, he set me up with his brother who had rollers. I spent a month on them going over several times a week until they decided it was safe for me to ride the road again. Enjoy that ride (at whatever speed)! Keep us posted. I've been thinking about the two of you (and your state) quite a lot. Your state because I think we will get there, just slower. Ben |

Did 63 miles, 2400' climbing, 80% gravel with about 25 miles on a rails-to-trail path. Stopped for pie and ice cream at the mid point. Didn't try to go hard, just rode moderately and had a great time. Pretty good breeze so there was some tail wind and some head wind. All in all a great day to be on the bike. Zero issues. Happy to be enjoying life. Thanks for asking. |

Good stuff Dale. Old codgers and things like that. Or just plain lucky (haha), this covid/cooties thing continues to be as mysterious as it is dangerous. |
